the vent...

doin joints 4 people and not gettin paid(even after the album drops)...

This has happened 2 me on too much of a regular basis. Maybe its my fault. I guess it is my fault if im not the 1 gettin paid huh? dont mean to put cats on blast but the the remix on wildchilds album? Yep... u guessed it. havent seen a check yet. Thats not the only project that there has been no payment 4...hit em off with that joint(tracked out on "good faith" I mean, it is stones throw records rite? thats like the DEF JAM of underground hip hop rite?)like atleast two years ago. Thats just 1 example. I guess the lesson of this is 2 get atleast half up front b4 u send the joint tracked out. On the other hand it is an honor that all these legends are on 1 of my tracks, but its not like i was there in person while they laid their verses...i didnt mix it or anything.
Come to think of it I did a track for this african dude named Tumi. Never got paid for that joint either. they just took the low quality mp3 stereo mix and did a song over it. For all I know that joint coulda been a #1 hit over there. Aight... so, its a new year now. hopefully I have learned from these mistakes and can elevate to a higher level in my life. We shall see... Its not a game out here folks...Im not sure when the "random joints " is comin out now. I had planned 4 it 2 drop on my birthday(feb 10) but the hard drive on my track machine was effin up. Thanks to the help of Roddy Rod im back on track...got the new 40 gig hd installed and so far so good. Just need to finish up these last 2 songs.(gotta get D.J. RBI to come back thru and finish up the cuts on 1 joint and hopefully Zo! is gonna hook me up with sum keys on another joint...) I never thought an e.p. would take this long to get finished...

I know Wildchild got a new album coming out in February I think but I also think it's not on Stones Throw this time around, weird right? Hopefully he will get your check before the release date, I heard it will be packaged with an instrumental disc too.

1st and foremost I would like to say that I am very inspired by your music and what you have brought to my culture of hip hop. Like you said 1 time..you not trying to change the world with your music but you just adding on to this beautiful culture that was left for us to keep it going. Those commentary stay in my car and when I get a beat block or ideas I listen to them and get inspired to do some joints.

Yeah that is fucked up that these cats arent paying for tracks that you have given them. The African dude was most def a bad look...with overseas cats I want all my money (damn they overseas aint like you can see them on a regular)

Wildchild..I thought he would be more on his grizzy than that..I don't think that his album came out on stonesthrow so you really cant talk to PBW and find out what the deal is.

New Year..New Attitude..New Business Sense

Bro, Im tellin you, hard drive problems is one of the worst things, especially when you've got projects coming out. My advice to you would be to get an external hard-drive. Their Good for back-up, and to work off of, they connect via your USB ports, and they hold normally like 160+ gig (I've even seen 1-terabyte ones) for as low as like 60 bux.

You might wanna look at one of those...

If thats how they roll then fidduckate Stones Throw. lol. I'll bootleg that joint and pass it out on campus just out of spite. lol. On the real Kev though, sounds like lawyer time homie. Bless you in the New Year. If it means anything, I thought it was the freshest joint on the album.

word up...thanks 4 the feedback. Im not dissin wildchild or anything. last time i talked 2 em he said i'd get paid next month.(that was in nov. i think... I think his new joint is on fat beats...not sure. 2 years ago when i gave em the beat i assumed it was a stones throw release.

Well, I guess that's why you have'nt hit me up on my project and all...gives Africans a bad look what Tumi did...I ain't gonna defend or say anything, but if you remember, I once said something about that track...

In my case, I remember asking if you could send EFT details for your 16 bars...like I said...no joke...or do you want me to send beats you can choose from? and lemme pay...and call that a rap when you done? You kno where to find me...Im dead serious....

the struggle continues homie.

I would have said just holler at PBW but a few mouseclicks told me that the joint is indeed being released on Fat Beats.

I haven't sold any beats on major projects but my guess is that beyond a certain point the dough handling is beyond the artist's direct supervision.

Perhaps you could get the correct Fat Beats contact from Wildchild and put an "official" call in? Like maybe from one of these cats?

music industry is always a bitch getting paid unless you got an agent/lawyer working for your negotiations , as artists we get caught up in "what a great opportunity" and all of this, but at the end of the day my fridge is empty.
I had a similar shit pop off with M Sayyid from Airborn Audio/ Anti-pop consortium, I went on a short euro - tour (5 days) in france as his DJ/Music Director and I never got a damn penny after he told me he was going to pay me this and that..... and this is after I gave homie 3 instrumentals, and had him come down to Miami and got him into the studio I was working at at the time for 3 days. he used Streets To The Stars on the close encounters mixtape as the opener and used a rough mix of it ( I was mad about that, I had such a better mix) and only put his first verse and the hook. we havent spoken since the tour and he wrote me an email saying he was a dick for not paying me and being upfront, and when I replied, and said "yeah it was dick move, but its all good, just hit me up sometime" he never got back after that and its been 2 years.

like u said kev, "life's a gamble". u handle it better than most, but maybe it's time to stop assuming others have the same principles and good intentions as u do? i dunno. but on another note, please don't forget to hit us off with that V joint soon. Happy New Year.

It's apart of game, unfortunately. I had a rapper hit me up who stole my beat, posted the song on her myspace and acted like it was cool?!?! The good thing is that it gives you exposure. On the downside, exposure doesn't always mean monetary compensation. What's funny is they rarely pull that move on big name producers. However, the up and comers also get jerked. It's a dirty game but it's either doing this or workin in a cubicle for the rest of your life on some Officespace type ish.

hold up..

did you just say new EP on the way!?!?

im cised nigga! bring it the fuck ON!

I've been a fan for years and u are definitely one of the hottest producers in the game.

But that doesn't mean much when ur strugglin' 2 get a dollar like everyone else.

U know better now, so just do better. I have mad faith in ur talents and yes, the LAST shall be FIRST.

You're time is coming, brother.

same thing happened to me kev. same bs. i also did a song with tumi, that is now licensed to EA sports (FIFA08)
i dont think the artist does shady things... its more the people that get him beats.
get at me, whom did you send your beat? just checking if the same person is behind this.
peace
