sleigh bells n' all that in the background...

"christmas wish"

This is another joint from the a.t.o.j. days... We recorded this for the movie "friday after next" hoping 2 get it placed on the soundtrack.(the christmas "friday" movie with money mike. Craig n day day are "top flight" security at the begining) Well... pretty needless to say, it didnt get picked. I think its a dope song tho. It kinda sounds like a classic soul christmas song. Not cheesy like a lot of contemporary holiday songs. Tanzania and I wrote and recorded this joint 2gether one weekend years ago...02?, 03? ...cant really remember.

Tanzania...

This is dope. That instrumental is crazy. I remember Jazmine off that Profile joint back when.

You still in touch with Jazmine Kev? I was listening to that "Wrong Day" for the first time in a while... incredible music.

Kev, whats good man, this has really nothing to do with the Christmas song, which is definitely fresh by the way. But in listening to the Brown Album the other day for the umpteenth time, something in me just told me to speak to you about another remix album. Now from what I hear, you've made it clear that you had no intentions of remixing American Gangster. However I think that the situation really would give you a great opportunity to be heard. Who'd imagine that Jay -Z is actually BIGGER now than when the Black Album dropped. Not only that but with Def Jam now being a part of the remix process, this could give you the chance to be exposed to alot of cats that otherwise didnt get to hear you the last time out. I say that to say I'm just a fan with an opinion, but I feel like God wanted me to relay this message to you. Nah I'm not crazy, long winded maybe. lol. But just a regular cat that wants real hip hop cats to succeed. I'm sure all the Kev Brown heads would agree. Sometimes you gotta step out on faith and see what happens. I'm learning and enjoying that in my own life. Peace and Happy Holidays

I loved "The Brown Album". I also regard Brown as the second best producer of all-time, second only to Premier (and Brown's got nothing but time).

But, personally, "American Gangster" should not be touched, by anybody. I think that they made a huge mistake putting an acapella version of that record out. It's sonically perfect. There is no need for ANYBODY to touch that record. It's an album that actually came out with a purpose, which, I believe, it has served. There's no need for credible, established producers to relegate themselves to the level of the thousands of dudes that started making beats when Myspace got big, that will inevitably take advantage of the acapella album.

Also, think about it like this - with "The Brown Album", a lot of dudes that didn't know who Kev Brown was, got familiar. You already acknowledged that Jay's bigger now than he was then. So the people that were made aware in 2003 will look at him as like a gimmick producer. There's expectation - when the next Jay album comes out with an acapella version, if Kev doesn't remix it, he's "retired" or "fallen off".

I think with the work dude's put in on ALL the Low Budget releases since "The Brown Album", he's proven himself as someone that doesn't need to box himself in like that. It was a stepping stone - it worked. Done. "Starr Status" is my personal favourite record of all time, and I've been listening to hip-hop since 1995. The value of contributing to masterpiece releases like that, is far greater than any remix album, even if it IS as dope as "The Brown Album" was.

This discussion went off course lol. Bring it back.
